The University of Kelaniya maintains its unique reputation for study of languages being the only University in the island to offer courses in six languages- French, German, Russian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Additionally, Italian, Arabic and Spanish are offered for the two-year certificate course (internal students only). The Department of Modern Languages, one of the oldest departments in the university is the only University department in the country to offer students such a wide range of foreign languages

Certificate Course in Japanese Language

Qualification         : Pass in 6 subjects at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level)

Course Fee         : Rs. 40, 750/= (Application fee + Registration fee)

Duration of the Course : 09 months

Teaching Methods         : Lectures will be conducted on weekdays 7.00 pan. onwards (via online)

Short Course in Korean Language

Qualification         : Pass in 6 subjects at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level)

Course Fee         : Rs. 35,750/- (Course fee + Registration fee)

Duration of the Course : 06 months

Teaching Methods         : Lectures will be conducted on Saturdays (via online)

Certificate in Chinese for Professional Communication

Qualification         : Pass in 6 subjects at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level)

Course Fee         : Rs. 45,750/— (Course fee + Registration fee)

Duration of the Course : 10 months (200 Lecture hours & 280 Practical hours on Sundays)

(This course is designed to allow you to study another foreign language for 40 hours in addition

to Chinese)

Advanced Certificate in Modern Chinese

Qualification         : Completed a Basic Chinese Course

Course Fee         : Rs. 46,750/ - (Course fee + Registration fee)

Duration of the Course : 10 months (200 Lecture hours & 250 Practical hours on Sundays)

Application Procedure : Applicants, who wish to apply for above Language Courses, please follow below Guidelines.
