Background Information

Directorate of Healthcare Quality and Safety (DHQS) was established in 2012 under the Ministry of Health. It is the national focal point that implements the healthcare quality assurance programmed of the country.

A Grant has been received by the Ministry of Health from the Global Fund under the "Health Information and Quality Improvement Project". One of the activities of the above project is "Strengthening System Research and Innovations through clinical audits, operational research and quality improvement projects".

The Directorate of Healthcare Quality &Safety plans to conduct the research "Health care quality and safety assessment in government hospitals in Sri Lanka" under this.

Applications are called for one position of Research Assistant for the above research.

Duties and Responsibilities

Performance review of hospitals had been conducted by the Directorate of Healthcare Quality and Safety since 2017. Data related to indicators (variables) are presented in a fixed format (Power Point) and some data are sent in Excel Sheets or PDF format. There are total of approximately 70 data elements from one hospital and those are mainly numerical data. Since 2017 Directorate had conducted 6 reviews per year (quarterly for 50 hospitals under the Line Ministry and biannually for 83 Provincial Hospitals). And theoretically there should be 366 presentations of data. The main duties of the research assistant as follows and should be conducted in accordance with guidance from the research team attached to the Directorate:

1. Entering the above data into the excel sheet and SPSS
2. Data cleaning
3. Data analysis
4. Assists in Report writing mainly sections related to results and analysis.

Desired Qualifications for the Post

1. Experience and knowledge in entering and analysis of data (A certificate of IT course is an added advantage).
2. Pre intern medical officer and/or previous experiences in involvement in research projects will be an added advantage.

Duration

On contact basis for 2 months.

Remuneration

A fixed allowance of Rs. 50,000.00 per month will be paid upon demonstration of satisfactory performance according to the Gantt Chart.
