Teaching Techniques of Geography” for Geography Teachers

The Department of Geography - University of Colombo intends to introduce a short course for teachers of A/L Geography in order to enhance their knowledge and understanding of teaching techniques of Geography. Department believes that this will improve the service quality and delivery standard of the teachers, thereby attracting more students towards this subject.

Geography is a multi-disciplinary subject in the field of Social sciences. Although, it is a subject which has a high demand; the recent past has witnessed a slight regressive trend in relation to A/L students, selecting Geography as a subject. According to our analysis, the students have a common perception that Geography is a difficult subject. The major reason behind this is the lack of subject knowledge and the incorrect method of teaching.

This course will enhance and upgrade your knowledge in application of modern techniques in Geography, such as cartography/mapping, IT/GIS applications and selection and answering of questions etc. Department believes that this course will improve the service quality and delivery standards of the teachers, there-by attracting more students towards this subject.
